A place greeted by warmth, pilling with endless swarms of customers and barely any seats vacant except for the small oak two-seater that held certain individuals less than what society expects of kids.Eyes flocked over endless amounts of time but there was no time to feel less than anything more than he was, people could judge and mutter insults, consult employees in hopes they wouldn’t have be seated anywhere near the two boys but everybody always thought they held more authority than they did.Humanity as a whole was an endless supply of those who thought they were better than others after all.Ran’s hands already felt boiling hot from the cuts and scraps which he both had some part of creating but his palms scalding against the warm cup of sweet coffee that he had no choice in choosing, his face ached from gashes and dried up blood that he hadn’t properly cleaned up… not that he had time to.Yet he felt unbelievably cold at the same time which caused an uncomfortable feeling to stem up from the roots of his chest that maybe only he felt.“Is it okay?” Ran asked. His eyes not leaving his messed up hands, it was an open ended question and he didn’t have time to change the way he worded it before he got his answer.“Why wouldn’t it be?” Himura replied.Ran’s eyes flicked up in mere seconds before letting out a small smile, it didn’t feel genuine in the slightest but he hoped and prayed it looked that way.He watched the others hands raise the glass to his lips, slightly parted and ready to kiss against the side of the cup, the dark black that engulfed the glass which was a contrast to the light brown that filtered into his own. That cold feeling in his chest shot a random moment of warmth and he mentally slapped himself for acting so childish before tearing his eyes away again.“I could still ask them for the right drink.” Ran spoke, it sounded more distracted than last time.“No need.” The words rushed to his head, there was no point in arguing back and forth about getting a replacement for the wrong drink they were given, Himura would just shut him down. He accepted that after another ten minutes.Ran made idle chatter while Himura happily obliged with answers, that carried on until the cloud parted and the light drizzle on sun cascaded through the large window… passing and hitting the younger of the two directly. He felt his blood run through with what felt like a hot sweat in seconds, like somebody was jabbing his heart with a fire concocted iron poker until he was about to explode. Not realising he had been staring a little longer than he intended to but he couldn’t pull his eyes away no matter how many attempts he made.“You should be more careful, next time.” Himura said. Those words dragged him back up into the surface of reality, Himura felt like a whole pipe dream he was constantly reaching out towards, he tilted his head in a nod and spoke with light amusement.“Theres no fun in that.” Ran replied. That earn a scoff of some sorts out of Himura, something of dismissal but the way his hands were slightly shaking, tingling with a sensation he wish he could bury and lock away were far from dismissal. They had been sat in the same spots while the world moved around them, time ticked into a few hours and they had long finished their drinks but neither made a move to leave. Maybe neither wanted to, that’s what Ran personally wished.Maybe that was selfish thinking? But he couldn’t stop this nagging feeling that was slowly tearing him apart then sowing him back together the moment Himura’s voice rang out in his ears or his face graced his presence.“I love you.” Ran confessed. He didn’t feel worried about saying those three words, he had done it so many times before but each one felt like he was falling further and further down a hole he couldn’t climb back up from.Himura gently moved his glass over the table to clink the cups together, Ran probably didn’t notice it then. The longing in his eyes that watched Himura’s every move and expression, the way he looked at Himura like he was the most precious thing that had ever entered Ran’s life.
